The impressive new buildings at Southampton University represent the UK’s largest university business partnership through their collaboration with the Lloyd’s Register Group. This has enabled the development of a world-leading marine technology and research centre of engineering excellence incorporating Lloyd’s Register new Global Technology Centre.
The University’s former Boldrewood Campus has been transformed into a state-of-the-art research hub. Grimshaw Architects wanted the buildings to appear as if they had been hewn from a solid block of stone.
Szerelmey undertook the supply and installation of beige Jura limestone rainscreen cladding using the Aliva Rainscreen System with an aluminium structure fixed back to concrete and 6mm joints; from a distance the facades appear solid. In addition the corners of the windows were made to appear quoined by gluing and pining.
