Szerelmey were contracted to undertake extensive hard landscaping across Tudor Square at the heart of Sheffield’s theatre district. The project involved laying Crosland Hill Yorkstone paving, curved steps, treads and risers, with much of the paving laid across a gently sloping terrain.
In addition to the paving Szerelmey installed 14 organic “pebble” shaped Yorkstone planters ranging in size from 10m diameter down to 2.5m. Each planter was comprised of a number of segments which were assembled on site. Due to the size and design of the planters this was an extremely complex procedure.
The segments were modelled in 3D by Sheffield University and cut using CNC machines at Johnson’s Wellfield in Huddersfield. Each planter also had artwork carved into the surface, with each piece perfectly aligned during installation using heavy lifting equipment and cranes.
