Royal Opera House

This recent package of internal works at the Royal Opera House is the second time Szerelmey has undertaken extensive stone work at this iconic building. The scope of works on our current package includes new stone flooring, stairs and ramps to the lower ground levels and ground level, including the new bar area. We laid the Crema Marfil stone, at 30mm thickness, with the slip resistance and ease of cleaning being two important factors in the design of the flooring, in particular for the ramp accesses and the bar areas.

One of the key drivers in working on this building was the programme, and fitting complicated and noisy stone works around the hectic schedule of performances. As such, the first element of the internal stone flooring had to be carried out within a tight timeframe of three weeks, to co-ordinate with the Royal Opera House annual closure. Following this, all stone works had to be carried out causing the least possible noise and disturbance, with the building remaining in full public use.
