King’s Cross Square

Client: Network Rail

Principal Contractor: Murphy

Architect: Stanton Williams

Package Value: £1.7M

Szerelmey have undertaken all the external hard landscaping at King’s Cross Station to create a stunning new 7000 sq m public square. This landmark project, completed to a very tight deadline, combines the grandness of the traditional, historic city centre railway station with an elegant contemporary look.

The square is paved in a striking pattern of alternating stripes using three different materials: SPI white granite from Portugal, beautiful Chinese black crystal granite and Crosland Hill York stone from Huddersfield. The perimeters of the square are delineated using the York stone, with the white and black granite creating the geometric pattern. In addition we installed all the external cladding to the external ventilation and cooling shafts using black granite.
