The Natural Stone Source Book Feature

We are delighted to have one of our key projects featured on the front cover of the Natural Stone Source Book. The Library and Study Centre, St John’s College Oxford was a fantastic project to work on alongside main contractors Stepnell and  Wright & Wright Architects with Clipsham stone supplied by Stamford Stone Co. The Natural Stone Source Book is designed to be both inspirational and educational, providing the information and visual stimulation required for successful completion of your natural stone project. Szerelmey recently completed this landmark project at St John’s College, Oxford. The new Library and Study Centre designed by Wright & Wright Architects sits in the College Garden and joins the existing library building that forms part of the historic Canterbury Quadrangle. Our works involved the survey and temporary removal of a historic boundary wall to allow access to the site. We installed the Clipsham limestone cladding to the exterior using 100mm thick stone, a corbel and restraint system. We also installed three “artworks” by artist Susanna Heron, which are fully loadbearing with a concrete core and solid stone corner pieces. Internally we laid Crosland Hill paving and created the links between the existing and new building using salvaged brickwork where possible. Further works involved external hard landscaping.
