Royal Opera House wins RIBA London Award 2019

Royal Opera House has won the RIBA London Award 2019. Congratulations to Stanton Williams! Szerelmey has been fortunate to work on this prestigious project not just once but twice, on the external and internals works. The project, called Open Up, was implemented to make some of the existing spaces at the Royal Opera more physically accessible, light filled and improve the pedestrian circulation through the building. Szerelmey’s internal package included new stone flooring, stairs and ramps to the lower ground levels and ground level in addition to creating the new bar area. Szerelmey delivered an extensive externals package some years ago and undertook the construction of the prestigious £2.7 million Covent Garden arcade of the Royal Opera House by Schal Construction management and Dixon Jones and BDP Architects. The package included all the 200m2 of handset Portland and stone-clad precast concrete to the five storey elevations, including the columns, cornices and string courses.

Szerelmey has two divisions, Restoration and New Build Services. Our New Build Team specialise in the design, supply and installation of external and internal stone, faience, brick and other hard bodied materials and can offer full wall build up and secondary/supporting work.
