Lincoln’s Inn is one of four ‘Inns of Court’ in London to which Barristers can belong. The complex, on Lincoln’s Inn Fields, was built from the 15th century onwards and contains Grade I and Grade II listed buildings. Szerelmey Restoration have undertaken important restoration work to the external staircases, perimeter walls, facades, and paving. Initially the team produced scheduled photos of the staircases and perimeter walls and identified each stone with a unique reference number, recording any defects.
They carefully dismantled the north staircase and east terrace boundary wall, palletizing and moving the stones to an on-site storage area ready for reinstatement at a later date. Szerelmey formed new openings in the historic brickwork facades and supplied and installed new stonework dressings.
They cleaned areas of the existing heritage coated brickwork in situ, before dismantling it, carefully removing any mortar by hand, and stacking and retaining it for re-use. Finally, the team detailed, procured and fixed stonework cladding to a new extension.
