Supporting Mental Health Through Movement: Gardening at Royal Trinity Hospice

This year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness is Movement, and we are embracing it by integrating gardening into our lives—a powerful tool for enhancing mental well-being. Gardening encourages physical movement while also providing a calming and rewarding experience.

For several years, we’ve had the privilege of supporting the Royal Trinity Hospice through various charity and fundraising activities. This year, our focus is on their beautiful garden at the Clapham head office. Our team had an incredible time contributing to this serene space, which plays a vital role in the well-being of everyone at the hospice.

Gardening offers numerous mental health benefits. It reduces stress by promoting relaxation and giving a sense of accomplishment. Spending time outdoors, surrounded by nature, can improve mood, alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, and foster a deeper connection with the natural world.

Trinity’s award-winning garden spans two acres and is a true sanctuary for patients, families, and staff. It features an ornamental pond, vibrant perennials, mixed flower beds, and over 50 different types of shrubs, along with fruit trees, specimen magnolias, and a wealth of wildlife.

Volunteering in this garden not only supports the hospice but also provides an opportunity to learn more about gardening and horticulture from the head gardener. It’s a rewarding experience that benefits both mental health and well-being.
