Curvy faience is taking shape!

We are delighted with the progress on this project which forms part of the Rathbone Square Development by Great Portland Estates. Szerelmey are currently installing curved faience tiles to two long passageways that connect Rathbone and Newman streets to a new public area at the centre of Rathbone Square. We carried out the design work and all the supporting steel structural works in advance of the faience.

The jade green faience tiles are being produced by Boston Valley Terra Cotta based in Buffalo, New York. Given the tolerances associated with faience, these tiles have been complicated to manufacture in order to achieve such a smooth curved finish. After a long period of design and all the preliminary structural works, it is great to see the faience tiles being installed so quickly!
